Muş, Western Armenia, spring 1915. Easter is only days away. Almost no one knows that it will be their last.
Narine is preparing to leave for Vienna to study singing. Her family is making plans for the future, expanding its business and living among Armenian, Turkish and Kurdish neighbours as generations before them have done. Narine herself has fallen in love with the son of the local bey.
But beyond the mountains, a war is raging. Disturbing reports are arriving from Istanbul. Soldiers and armed militias appear in the streets. Old friendships begin to fracture.
Then the order comes.
Within days, a family’s ordinary world collapses. Plans for studies, marriages and new ventures are replaced by one question: who will survive?
The Last Easter is a historical novel set against the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Rather than telling the story through generals and politicians, it follows ordinary people who continue planning their futures until history suddenly tears those futures away.
A story of family, love, betrayal and survival — and of how quickly neighbours can become persecutors when a society decides that some of its people no longer belong.

The Azarians are a well-armed Armenian family. Mr. Azarian works well in the town of Musch, one of the centers of Western Armenia, part of the Ottoman Empire. He is about to open a branch office in Istanbul, whose leadership is likely to entrust his eldest son. And the middle daughter, the main character hero, Narine, who will be eighteen after Easter, is gifted with tongues and music, and when she is of age, she meets her dream and goes to Vienna to study at the conservatory. The reader is waiting for Easter in 1915 together with the Azarians. The book is a retelling of hundreds of years of historical stories.
